They’re big, and they’re everywhere. They’re one of the most popular stores for women and girls to buy lingerie, clothing, swimwear, shoes, etc. Their annual fashion show gets millions of views from all over the world. So why are they using their fame, money, and power to make it seem like studying and learning aren’t important for girls? PINK is the section of VS meant for pre-teen to young adult girls. “Education is unimportant, partying is more fun!” isn’t what teenage girls should be thinking. Just recently, girls clothing with sexist phrases like “Allergic to algebra” and “I’m too pretty to do my homework so my brother has to do it for me” were pulled from the shelves of other big name stores such as JC Penney and Forever 21 because of the outrage they sparked. Victoria’s Secret should do the same, not just because it’s wrong, but because a company catering to females should want to encourage and empower them! How could a message like “Study Less Party More” even be approved by women themselves (working for VS) in the first place? When women didn’t always have the right to receive an education, and messages like these even in 2012 are NOT acceptable.
